Red Fox

It is finished. Layering oil colors on top of one another takes time. I set out to do the red fox in acrylics but things change.

It started like this.

I thinned out the colors with mineral spirits and used pieces of string to paint this renard. An average of two hours per color going from a dark red all the way to white.

Jumping Fox

Started working on a red fox painting Saturday. I’m using oils as a base layer to get the general shape of the fox. Once that dries, I’ll lay down oranges and reds in acrylics over top. The red fox jumps this way when hunting for mice and voles, usually in the winter. It will use its hearing to pinpoint the location of its prey and then pounce with both front feet to break through the snow. This video pretty much sums it up.
