Artist Statement
I’ve always been fascinated by the inherent beauty of nature. To me, nature means everything. It isn’t limited to trees and water, but expands to include absolutely everything in existence. My interest and curiosity, or plainly my sense of awe, fuel my attempts to comprehend the world around me. Fundamentally, I believe it is important to develop a questioning and inquisitive attitude in all facets of life and this drives my art. More and more of late the topic of control versus chaos has become increasingly pronounced in my life. My most recent works are reflections of my exploration of that theme and serve as my examination of the world around me. When I am working on a piece, I am choosing lines, shapes and colours while still allowing for a degree of randomness, knowing control can not exist without chaos. It is important for me to allow things to happen, to be aware of them happening, and to add to this process. My personal style remains undefined and I strive to keep it as such. From within, a pattern will eventually emerge from the perceived chaos. As always.
I am a mixed media artist with a focus on illustration and scientific illustration currently enrolled at the School of the Museum of Fine Arts in Boston, MA. I was born in Fort Frances, Ontario and have been painting since 2004. My practice centres on examining the beauty, mystery, and occasional absurdity of life and my surroundings. In addition, my scientific drawing includes anatomical drawings and representations of microscopic life blended with a touch of the surreal.
